First Girl I Loved [D] John Hartford Capo 3 if you want it to be in tune with the record. To me this song has some ambiguities that make it interesting (or hard to play, depending on your point of view), sometimes due to the bass or mandolin hitting a note that the guitar may not be covering. But this is my one-evening's take of it, for a single guitar sometimes hitting a note that may be done on the record with another instrument (like the D6). I think the A sometimes sound better with a string open, such as I've shown as A6. Especially where he does a little lingering strum on the chord in question. A bit of back and forth between the A6 and Em7 works for me. This is my opinion and laziness, preferring to find something that sounds similar rather than working on it all night! I admit my "run2" is a bit klugey. Hope you like it. Oh, I'm not buying the "to a boil" suggestion. Sounds like "tinfoil" to me and makes more sense even.
