GROSBEAKS OF PARIS TOWNSHIP, OHIO
I call this a "transitional" male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, doesn't have all the adult plumage yet.
If it looks a little bit 'paint-by-number' it's because I did a little filtering on it. Shot in pretty low light, it was rather noisy.
2 or 3 years ago I saw one a bit like this, with parts that looked male and parts that looked female, very striking and lovely. I longed to get a chance to photograph one ever since, and tonight there he was! Love that mix of colours, the jet black on the wing, the hint of red just starting to come in. I don't think the photo does it justice. We've not seen these for some months, I bet this one was here before, seemed familiar with the place. Heading back through on the way south for the season perhaps.
